Hearing problem...me?
If your hearing is less than perfect,
you're not alone. Problems typically start at age 32 in men, and
37 in women. According to Arizona audiologist H. Lee McLeod, Ph.D.,*
by the time we're in our 60s, 25% of us will have significant
hearing loss.
What causes high-frequency hearing
problems? A number of things, including the natural aging process,
and exposure to loud music. In fact, as discovered by Ohio University
researchers,** young men in particular tend to crank up the volume...and
peer pressure may keep them from complaining if someone else wants
it loud! As a result, males are especially at risk for loud noise-related
hearing loss.
