Can you record that telephone conversation?

Yes...but it is common courtesy to let the person on the other end of the line know that you'll be recording.

You may have heard that you need to sound a beep-tone every 15 seconds or so, but that may not be necessary. Verbal notification at the beginning of the taped conversation should be adequate. However, in some instances local regulations vary, so you should check with your utilities commission—just to be sure.

Courtesy would also dictate sensitivity to those callers who request that you not record their conversation. Some people are uncomfortable with the idea of being recorded, just as some are uneasy in front of a camera. Still have questions? Just e-mail us at xpressit@hellodirect.com.
